And The Saga Continues...

I am one who does like to see the bright side of things.  With that said, I have to say, I don't think there is a bright side to this one.  As if a house fire wasn't bad enough, we showed up to our house today to check on the progress of the clean up, and walked into the basement flooded.  I live in RI for those of you wondering.  We have had just about 8 inches of rain in the last two days.  My house has never had so much as a drop of water in it.  Now, there are literally thousands of people in the RI area that are under water, some worse than others, many of these people, myself included do not have flood insurance.  Floods do not typically happen in my area, and our mortgage company did not require us to get flood insurance.

So being able to speak on behalf of those who have had to deal with fires, and those who have had to deal with floods...Which is worse?  I'm not really sure yet.  I don't think anyone should have to deal with both of them within 2 weeks of each other.   The items we owned that we thought were safe from the fire that we had downstairs, has now been voided by the fact it is now water logged.  We were able to hopefully save the TV, as it is a floor model, by lifting it up onto the coffee table.  The couch, we didn't bother with as the smell from the fire in it, is just too much.  Leather tends to hold the smell of burnt plastic.  We were able to get the pool table up on lifts.  Hopefully the water wont rise above 6 inches.  Waited in line today to get 10 sandbags from the Dept. of Public Works, to try and save at least one room, which soon after laying down the sandbags, realized it was a moot point, water still somes in.

Now we don't have flood insurance, but we had the fire last week, so the contract with the cleaning comapny includes having downstairs cleaned... Hmmmm.....  Okay how does this work?  The water logged carpeting is brown from the soot and ash...from the fire.  Again, I must say scratching my head....Hmmmmm.....

So this is how it goes...

October - I get laid off, and become part of the rising unemployment rate...
November - My twin daughters both have major foot surgeries to correct issues they had
December - My husband and I separate
February - My Husband and I decide to put our mistakes behind us, and really work on us.  (Things are great with us by the way!)
March - We go to the store and come home to a house fire
March Again - We come home again to a flood....

The way I see it, looking at this list, it's World - 5, Me - 1 ... I think when this is all said and done, and we actually can put this behind us, I'm never leaving my house again.  Yep, sounds good right about now.

This May will be the 3 year anniversary of the flood that our family went through and lost everything, I definitely feel your pain! Our family would love to help your family, what do you need right now?

OK, after reading your blog and hearing of your trying times I have decided not to be whiny or upset or sad if anyone comes into my house with mud on their shoes or spills a drink on my freshly cleaned carpet! :) I cannot imagine going through what you and your family are going through! I found myself smiling about you and hubby doing great and I wish you both much happiness!
