As you may know, if you are a regular reader of my site, I am a huge advocate for rescuing animals.  Large, small, cats, dogs, mice, you name it, I have rescued it!  Before buying a pet from a pet store... ESPECIALLY a puppy, please go and check your local animal shelters, many times you will find purebreds.  If you are looking for a particular breed, there are many breed specific rescues that you can find online, simply by Googling it.  Do your homework before picking a puppy, make sure it is a breed that will fit your lifestyle.  If you are not an active family you are not going to want to adopt or buy a dog that requires a lot of excercise.  This is often times why many animals end up in shelters.  Also take into consideration, that the larger the animal, the bigger the vet bill!

Make sure that if you are buying a puppy, you buy one through a reputable breeder.  NO REPUTABLE BREEDER WILL SELL THEIR PUPPIES TO A PET STORE.  These puppies are most likely from large scale puppy mills, or backyard breeders.  Ask to see the paperwork on these puppies, and you will often times find that it doesn't exist, or they are forged in one way or another.  A great website to check out is Pet Finder

Also be sure to click on my link at the top of this page everyday.  Each click a sponser will donate money to local shelters.

Okay, I will now get off my soapbox for the night!
