Comes in Three's...

Okay, things really do come in three's!  Sunday as my husband was driving home from work, he blew his tire out.  Well nothing was open on Sunday due to the holiday, so we had to wait to get it fixed.  Granted this was nothing compared to the last two weeks with the fire and then the flood, however I'm counting this as the third thing, so maybe now our luck will change for the better.  While having the tire fixed we realized that the registrations on both our trucks had expired.  Crap, I was supposed to do that two weeks ago.  Oh yeah, I had a fire, and a flood.  So yesterday was spent running around getting things done that we had to get done, and had forgotten to do.

Over the last couple of week's living in such tight quarters, much of that time has been spent talking.  It's a good thing, it has brought us closer.  One of the funniest things that came out of my husbands mouth was this... "Maybe it's a good thing we had the fire BEFORE the flood..."  I never thought in a million years how true, that statement would be.  He was right.  After the flood, cleaning companies from all over the country have been flocking to RI to help out homeowners that have been flooded out by all the rain water.  Had it been the other way around, a flood before the fire, we would have never been able to find a hotel room that would suit all of us.  So yes, having a fire, before the flood, was probably a good thing.  Not that I would wish for any, but if it had to come I guess looking at things as half full, it's better that it happened the way it did.

The only issue we have right now is with the cleaning company, they have been swamped with other people's flooded out basements, which are considered more of a top priority apparently, they haven't been back to our house since last Wednesday.  So that's an additional six days that the soot and smell have been overpowering my home.  My sense of smell has become rather sensitive to that smell.  The only way I can describe such a smell, is this... Have you ever started your oven, only to realize too late that there was a plastic lid, or plastic bowl that was being stored inside that you had forgotten about?  That's what my entire house smells like, the walls, the floors, the ceilings, the wood, everything.  There is a machine running 24/7 to minimize the particles, and odor.  They say the levels have dropped a bit.  I don't smell it less.  If anything, I seem to be able to smell it more.  I was unlocking the front door of my house yesterday, when I smelt it.  I hadn't even opened the door yet, and I could smell it. So either the smell is getting worse, not better, or I have just become rather sensitive to that smell, and if that's the case, then I don't want a single item that was in that house. Sentimental value or not, that smell is a constant reminder of what has happened.

We had gone to the cleaning companies place to pick up a few items that were done being cleaned, my prescription glasses being one of them.  I put the glasses on my face, only to smell that burnt plastic smell.  Since my frames were plastic frames, the scent doesn't come out of them too well.  My eye doctor doesn't do business with the company that makes the frames that I love so much, little black and white rectangular frames made by Brendel.  I am hoping I will be able to find them online.  I'm not getting my hopes up as they are last years frames.  Maybe I will be able to find a similar model that look just as good.  That's on my agenda for today, so wish me luck in finding them!
