New Self Sustaining Weekly Segment

Since the house fire, and the flood that we lived through last year, we have made a conscience decision to try and be more self sustaining, and create a smaller carbon footprint in our home and daily lives.

When we had to go through every last piece of personal belonging we owned, we realized just how much we had and even more importantly how much we didn't need.

Like it or not, we live in a disposable society.  Use once and throw it away, store shelves that are littered with the word "disposable".  I'm beginning to realize that this word, "disposable" has become an epidemic.

Now I'm not about to preach about what you should or shouldn't be doing.  You can only do what your comfortable doing, and what you can afford to do.  I am, however going to feature one or two products each week, that can help you to become more self sustaining, and less dependant on major corporations.  Each item that I will be featuring will be easy to operate, inexpensive, and help you to reduce your own carbon footprint.

To start this whole weekly segment off, I am suggestiong a great item by Pampered Chef.  It's called the Kitchen Spritzer, and costs only $12.50

You may think that $12.50 is a little pricey for such a small kitchen gadget.  Consider this, The cost of buying an aerosol can of pan spray is roughly $3.99.  If you cook as much as I do, you can essentially go through one of those cans every month.  That equals to over $50 per year on aerosol.  Every time you use it, you are adding propellants to the air.  With the Pampered Chef Kitchen Spritzer, there is no propellants, and no can to throw away when it's empty, simply refill.

With the Pampered Chef Kitchen Spritzer, you can use ANY oil you want.  I have two of these, one filled with olive oil, the second with Canola oil.  I will give you all a piece of information that I didn't know before, to help you keep your gadget in optimal working order for years to come.  Once you are done using the spray, before putting it away,  remember to release the pressure that you pumped into it, by simply untwisting the cover slightly.  By doing this, you will take the pressure off the spray nozzle, and ensure your gadget will last.

I had one of those, but it always seemed to clog up. Now I just use a pastry brush & some oil to coat anything I would have used nonstick spray on. Works like a charm!
