Think Carefully Before Purchasing a "Double" Oven

When we were redesigning, and rebuilding our kitchen yet again, I had my heart set on a double oven.  I mean I had the additional cost already justified in my head.

I.  Was.  In.  Love.

I had read all the reviews.  I had visited several appliance stores.  I had really done my homework.

When the time came to actually go into a store and purchase what I wanted, I was fortunate that I had an associate that didn't care about a big fat commission.  He just wanted to make sure that I would be happy with my purchase.

Well, I found out a few things that I really hadn't thought about.

1.  The top oven is never as large as you may think it is.

2.  You cannot fit a large roast or turkey in the top oven.  So if you host large dinners throughout the year, you may regret your purchase.

3.  Try placing a 20 pound turkey in the bottom oven, and you'll see that having to get down on your knees to both place it in and take it out will have you wishing you didn't purchase a double oven.  Better still try and baste something when it's in the bottom oven.

I still really wanted to have the option of having 2 ovens in my kitchen, and placing 2 wall ovens was not an option.

So what did I do?

That is the Frigidaire Gallery Oven.  A single large oven, with the Convection option, which I have to say is a huge time saver.  Four burners, one warmer, and two with the "quick boil" option.

I also spent a little extra on the Microwave which is also a Frigidaire Gallery, and the best part of this, is it's not only a microwave, but can also work as a convection oven.

So I still got my two ovens, and I have to say that I am so happy I didn't go with the double oven.

The point of this post?  Make sure to do some leg work before making a large purchase on an item that you may not be familiar with.   You may come across something you hadn't of thought about, which may in fact change your perspective on it!

I have a double oven, which came with the house we bought, and normally love it. Until we were hosting dinners. Our next oven will not be a double! I agree, placing a turkey in the bottom, SUCKS!
