Meals in a Jar Review & Giveaway!

meals in a jar book review and giveaway

I was recently sent a copy of the book, Meals in a Jar by Julie Languille, to review.   I was a little excited to get this book, as a while back I purchased a dehydrator to dry some fruits to be able to store for longer shelf life.

Needless to say, I had yet to use my "still-in-the-box" dehydrator, as I admit, I was a little nervous about doing this.  I really didn't want to mess anything up.  I hate when things don't come out exactly right.

Turns out this book, not only has some really great recipes, but also contains a lot of vital information when drying different foods!

I'm having a blast making lots of meals ahead of time that I can store in our basement!  My only problem is the waiting.  Waiting for different foods to reach their drying peak.  (I have no patience!)

From soups, to breakfasts to desserts, you'll find a lot of great recipes that can be made months ahead of time, stored, and ready to use at a moments notice.

I know that many of my readers here, like to stockpile, and plan meals in advance, and this book can help you do just that!

I mean who wouldn't love buying things like strawberries in the middle of Summer when they are at their lowest prices, dry them out, and use them in the middle of winter when they are at the highest prices in the stores?  Same thing can go for potatoes, onions, celery and so many other foods!

Here's the fun part for you!  You can enter for a chance to win this book!   This contest will run end on  4/1/2013 at 10:00 AM.

Good Luck!

I plan our meals ahead every week! I usually make three months worth of freezer meals in the summer but other than that just once a week :)

I plan our meals out a month at a time. I used to do one week at a time but found it is easier if a I do a whole month.

I bought a dehydrator last summer to capitalize on free tomatoes we were getting through our church. Unfortunately, the grower canceled the program between the time I ordered the dehydrator and the time it arrived. It would be nice to get some use out of the dehydrator.

I plan a few meals every two weeks on payday, but I also have ingredients I keep around for favorite meals so I can just make what sounds good on a particular day.

Fridays are always planned, homemade pizza and rootbeer floats and the rest of the week is usually planned a couple of days in advance. A lot of times it depends upon the expiration date of ingredients in the fridge!

We're awful at planning meals around here. We have a few meals that we keep the ingredients around for and keep going back to, so if I haven't planned I just have to choose one of those. But I need to do SO much better. :-(
