Must Have Spices
We all have that spice cabinet. Some of us have bigger ones than others. I love looking at someone else's spice cabinet, because I can always tell just which of my friends love to cook and which ones don't. The ones that don't have the basics, you know, basil, pepper, garlic powder and salt. The ones that do, yes, like me, have just about every spice, herb, and oil under the sun.
This got me thinking the other day, just which ones are my go to spices, and which ones I could absolutely not live without.
So here's my go to list of spices that everyone should have in their own spice cabinet.
The Basics:
Salt
Black Pepper
Basil
Oregano
Dill
Garlic Powder
Onion Powder
Celery Salt
Olive Oil
Allspice
Cinnamon
Vanilla
Paprika
Advanced Basics:
You'll find using many of these items in your dishes will add so much flavor and flair to your meals, you'll wonder why you didn't have them in the first place.
Truffle Oil
Ground Mustard
Cayenne Pepper
White Pepper
Chives
Curry
Chile Flakes
Cumin
Cloves
Ginger
Saffron
Sage
Sesame Seeds
Poppy Seeds
Tumeric
Lemon Oil
Sea Salt
Blackened Seasoning
Some of these advanced herbs and oils are harder to find than others. I found that ordering them online is much easier than running around town trying to find them.
What are some of your must have spices?
