Updates. Where We Are 4/6

April 6th, 2012.  It's been exactly 7 weeks since our lives were turned upside down.  5 weeks since the demolition has been done.  35 days of looking at bare studs.  We began to make some phone calls last Friday, as we have not been happy with the lack of progress being made with our 3rd party insurance adjuster.

Monday came, and it looked promising.  We had found out that by Wednesday there should be an agreement in place.  We had some hope.  Wednesday came and went.  The flicker of light from that hope had been blown out.   At our wits-end, my husband made another phone call.  This time to our insurance company directly.  Not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling, my husband pulled out the one word that we were holding back.

"Lawyers".

Lo and behold at 3 pm yesterday, we received a phone call from our contractor.  The phone call we had been hoping for.  It's not exactly the amount that it should have been, but as our contractor put it, it's do-able.  We will be able to put back everything we had in the house.  We will be able to have the same quality that we had.  As. It. Should. Be.

There is no question as to having enough insurance, the biggest obstacle here and is always getting the insurance company to pay out.  This has always amazed me.  You have insurance, go years and years never putting in a claim, or maybe never put in a claim, and in your time of need, the company does little to nothing to ensure your taken care of.  Infact they have adjusters that try to lower the amount that the company has to pay you, and will take weeks to give you what your entitled to.  However;  turn the tables, and try not to pay your premiums on time, and now you can be left high and dry.   When they call to collect their premium, I defy you to tell them, that you're going over their policy, and really don't agree with the price and "we'll get back to you in 5 to 7 days with a counter-offer.  You'll be dropped quicker than you can blink.

Okay, so now that I'm off my soapbox.  I am pleased to announce that construction will begin on Monday.  Finally.

Here's hoping that construction moves along quickly, smoothly, and without any hiccups.
