September is National Coupon Month
Did you know that September is National Coupon Month? Here's another piece of information that you may not have known. Coupons originally made their debut in 1887. The product? Free drink cards for Coca-Cola!
It wasn't until the 1930's that coupons became a household staple due to the depression. Now-a-days, coupon redemption has reached an all time high, with more than 2 billion dollars saved in the first half of this year alone!
Families today are looking to coupons to not only cut back on spending, but also to continue to enjoy the luxury items without the luxury price tags. By using coupons, one family can save as much as $10,000 in a single year, just by using coupons.
By combining special offers, with sales, and coupons, the possible savings are endless.
Take my family for instance. We had a lot of things we needed/wanted to do with the outside living spaces this year.
Lowe's began offering a "Tax Refund" gift card in February. You could purchase these gift cards in any denomination from $50 - $4000. On March 18th, they would add 10% to the original amount.
So our $4000 purchase was now, $4400. By using a 10% coupon on every purchase we made, our $4400 gift card was able to purchase $4840 of products. We didn't stop there though, we made several purchases, for items that were on clearance, bringing our total purchases valued at $5370!
That's an additional $1370 which covered a few of the "wanted" items.
The secret to doing this? Keep your eyes peeled for coupons, coupon codes, savings events, and clearance items, and since it is National Coupon Month. Try it for the next 24 days, and watch your savings add up!
